Some of you might not have the time to read through the whole article and this is why I would like to point you to the best tactical glove which is also my top recommended product in this article. This glove will be the Mechanix Wear Glove which is not that expensive and has most of the important features which makes these gloves so special.
Finding the right pair of tactical gloves can be a mission. Especially when there are more than 100 different types and brands available. Have you ever bought a pair of gloves and stopped wearing them for only one week and had to discard them?
Luckily, I have realized that there are some very important pointers that make each glove different and this will drastically change the way you look at gloves. In this article, I will go over some of the most important pointers that you must know before buying the best tactical glove. It will include the type of material, ventilation, knuckle and palm protection and trigger finger sensitivity which is very important if the shooting range is your second home.
You will also get an in-depth review on 13 of the best gloves that can be used by tactical personnel. Below you will find a buying guide which will be of great help and will also be your compass for when you decide to buy one of these gloves.
How To Choose The Best Tactical Gloves
This buying guide will especially be useful for those of you that are not familiar with tactical gear which also includes gloves. This guide will give you some great insight on what these gloves have to offer. I have gone through almost 20 gloves and ended up only writing about 13 because of some quality issues that I came across.
This enabled me to look at the types of features that most gloves will have and also what is important. If you want to almost avoid the pain of having to return the gloves that you thought were great and then bought, then you might want to go through this guide with me as it might save you a lot of headaches. Let us start off with the most important aspect which will be the price.
Budget
I think that we both agree that in the end, the price tag of a product will determine whether we will buy it or not. If we all had an unlimited budget to work with, then this would not be a product but let us get back to reality. Fortunately, some of the gloves in this article are relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other products which I have reviewed in the past.
If you would like to have a look at the 3 most inexpensive gloves reviewed in this article, then I would recommend the following 3 pairs:
If you are the type of person that would like to head over to the most expensive pair, then I would recommend the PIG FDT Gloves which is also of very high quality.
Color
Some people do not really worry that much about the specific color of the gloves, but I know that for some people, this will be a deal breaker. Most of the gloves will only come in the color Black while other will have more options between Brown, Green and also Yellow. If you would like to have gloves that are Camo’d also called Multicam, then I would recommend the Mechanix Wear gloves.
Shooting Performance
What would a tactical glove be if you it cannot be used for shooting? There are 2 very basic features that I look for when looking for a glove that can be used at the shooting range or for hunting.
The first feature is also the most important and will be involved in the trigger finger. When it comes to the trigger finger, you do not want any unnecessary padding that will make it hard for your finger to fit on the trigger. You also want to be able to feel the trigger because how can you squeeze the trigger if you cannot feel where it is. This is where trigger sensitivity plays a very important role.
Most of the times I prefer to use fingerless gloves for this exact same reason. The second feature will revolve around the grip. What good is it to shoot with a handgun and it accidentally slips out of your hand because of the recoil. The best materials used near the palm area will be either nylon or leather.
Protection
Some people might want to use these gloves for airsoft, shooting, biking and also other more serious activities where the glove must provide at least some protection.
The most common areas where protection is needed are the knuckle area, finger and also the palm of the hand. Some gloves will either be double padded with leather, contain rubber or Neoprene to absorb some of the impacts.
Breahtability
I do not even want to start with athletes feet or in this case “athletes hands”. I had enough of this by sharing boxing gloves with other people (I know it is very gross and not recommended).
When you cannot get rid of the moisture inside of the glove or at least reduce some of the sweating inside of your glove then you might predispose yourself to some nasty little microbes.
This is where ventilation comes in place. Some gloves will have nylon webbing or some other unique materials such as TrekDry on the sides while others will be fingerless.
Flexibility
I prefer to use a glove that does not hinder the movement of your wrist in any way. This is why I like gloves that do not cover your whole wrist. Almost all of the gloves will have a velcro cuff at the end of the wrist which can also be easily taken off.
If you like to wear a watch along with your gloves, then I would highly recommend the gloves from First Tactical as they are also bezel compatible which means that there is enough space for your watch which will not interfere with wrist movement.
Touch Screen Compatible
It is a good idea to take note that you actually get gloves that are compatible with touch screen by using a special type of material. This is especially useful for when you constantly have to take off your gloves just in order to answer your phone.
The best option here is to wear fingerless gloves but if you prefer a full glove, then I would highly recommend the PIG FDT Gloves where the fingertips are compatible with touchscreens.
Insulation
If you like to hunt during the winter season, then you might be familiar with having cold hands. The problem with cold hands is that your sensitivity and reflexes are reduced which might impact your hunting experience.
The type of materials used can also influence how well the gloves will retain the warmth of your hands. There are currently 2 gloves in this review that will help to keep your hands warm and they include the gloves from Hatch NS430 and also the Under Armour gloves which is also a great option.
Materials
The type of materials used in the manufacturing process of these gloves will play an important role in not only the quality but also other factors such as breathability, stretchability, durability, comfort and also protection.
The most common type of materials used is the following: Leather (either synthetic or real), Rubber, Nylon, Polyester, Spandex, Velcro, Neoprene and also other secret formulas which are patented.
Leather
This is a natural material and can either come from goat or cow skin. This material can provide durability, comfort and also flexibility. The only problem is that does not allow much airflow into your hands. I also prefer the natural leather over the synthetic one.
Rubber
This material is flexible and also provides protection. This material is commonly used to protect the finger and/or the knuckle area. It is also a good insulator and is waterproof.
Nylon and Polyester.
These 2 material are very similar in function and texture. Nylon is known for its ability to be tough and water resistant. Polyester is also very tough and does not wrinkle that easily.
Spandex
This material is very stretchable and is usually added to gloves to give them more flexibility and freedom of movement.
Velcro
This type material can also be called “hook and loop” and usually comes in straps that will stick to each other. They are very common in gloves and is used in the cuff to tighten the glove around the wrist area.
Neoprene
This is a special type of material that is commonly used in diving suits. It is a stretchable and spongy type of material that has thermo-conductive properties which will retain some of the heat released by your body. Gloves that contain this material tend to be better used during cold weather or seasons.
#1 Mechanix Wear (Top Pick)
Firstly I am going to start off with the best pair of gloves which was also my favorite. If you like shooting and you want a pair of gloves that are comfortable and will also protect your hands, then you need to have a look at the Mechanix Wear gloves.
These gloves also come in 1 color which are Multicam and also 5 different sizes which include the following: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large and XX-Large.
The quality that you get is pretty decent and it is not that expensive compared to some of the other gloves that you can find online.
Some other things these gloves are capable of:
- Designed for durability and protection. I think it is fair to say that the durability of a glove will walk hand in hand with the protection it provides not only for your hands but the gloves as well. It comes with a thermoplastic rubber knuckle guard that will protect your knuckles against impact. The guard also does not stop on the knuckle but extends through to the fingers as well. For some people, this might not be ideal because this might hinder finger movements.
- Works great as a shooting glove. The index finger does not have the same protection as the rest. This will greatly free any hindrance to your trigger finger to that perfect shot from your firearm.
- Provides ventilation. The glove itself is also made out of TrekDry materials that come with Multicam camouflage to enhance its looks. The Trekdry material also helps with ventilation in order to keep your hands cool.
- Offers great palm protection. The protection is also not limited to the knuckles and fingers and extends to the palm of the hand as well. This is where the D3O palm padding comes into play. This padding will help to lessen some of the impacts you might experience on your palms.
- Unhindered wrist movement. The wrist area is also open for unhindered movement and a very comfortable fit. Having sweaty palms is also not my idea of having fun.
As you can see, these gloves from Mechanix Wear offers great protection without hindering your trigger finger which makes it also great for shooting.

#2 Mrsight (Least Expensive)
If it is the end of the month and you are a bit limited when it comes to your budget then you might be interested in the pair of gloves from Mrsight.
For the value that you get and the incredibly low price, the Mrsight has earned the rank of least expensive. These gloves also come in 3 colors which includes: Black, Camel, and Green.
There are also 3 sizes available which include Medium, Large and Extra Large.
Some of the features that come with this product:
- Moderate protection. The knuckles and palm area will have a double layer of leather for extra protection against any type of contact.
- Premium quality materials. The type of materials used will be leather and nylon mesh. The nylon mesh will cover the palm area and also the area at the top side of your hand. Half of fingers and palm area will be covered with leather.
- Fingers are open. As mentioned before, the fingers will be open which will help with ventilation and sensitivity. This will also enable you to use your touchscreen iPhone or tablet while wearing these gloves. Another great benefit is the increased sensitivity when using your trigger finger.
- Somewhat breathable. The glove will be somewhat breathable because of the nylon mesh and open fingers but the only problem is that leather is not a very “breathable” material.
As you can see, these gloves are not as highly padded as the previous pair mentioned but can still provide some protection. The price is also almost one-third of that of the Mechanics Wear gloves.

#3 PIG FDT Gloves
If you are someone that shoots a lot (because of the gloves’s sensitivity) and wants the best pair of gloves for that, then I will like to introduce to you the PIG glove (and no it is not made out of pig skin).
This glove will also come in 4 colors which will include Black, Carbon Grey, Coyote and Ranger Green. These gloves will also come in 5 sizes which will include Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large and XX-Large.
It is also important to note that these gloves are more expensive than the previous 2 mentioned and it is also for a good reason.
Let us move on to some of the features:
- Made out of unique and high-quality materials. These pair of gloves are made out of Forschette and Clarino™ material which are both synthetic materials.
- Ideal for shooting. Do you know what is making this glove so special? It is that it has a sensitized and isolated trigger finger. This means that the trigger finger has the thinnest material available to help with sensitivity. Now you can actually feel the trigger which will give you better control over your weapon.
- Can use it for touchscreens. The dexterity of this glove is just crazy. The thumb and trigger finger is made out of conductive material that enables you to use a touchscreen device while wearing these gloves.
- Do not limit joint movement. All of the fingers will have at least a single flex area while the trigger finger is going to be a double flex. The flex is basically the small area of the joint that does not have any padding. This will greatly help with the flexibility of finger joint movement.
- It also provides protection. The knuckles area has a double layer to help with protection against impact. The palm also only has a single layer of protection so help with uncompromised grip.
- The gloves do not limit wrist movement. As you may have noticed, the gloves only go up to the wrist. This will help your wrists to move more freely without any type of interference.
These gloves are perfect for shooting but can also be somewhat expensive for most people. Other than the price, I think these are a great pair of gloves to have.

#4 FREETOO
If you would like to have a glove where you can at least have a choice on whether you want a full or fingerless glove, then you need to have a look at these pair from Freetoo.
One good thing that I picked up from the Freetoo was that you have an option to choose the full glove or the fingerless. I do not know how most people will feel about how the glove actually looks, but for me, I really loved the look. It was simple and very practical.
If the MrSight was not for you, but you are still interested in a fingerless glove, then I would recommend the Freetoo glove. The price for this glove is a bit more expensive than the MrSight but is still very reasonable.
Some of its features:
- Premium quality materials. This glove is made out of several materials which include the spandex, PU layer and also velcro around the wrist.
- Offers some ventilation. Just below each one of the knuckles, you will find a small hole that might help with airflow inside the glove.
- Offers some decent protection. The palm is also coated with a dual layer of synthetic leather to help with the grip and skidding. The knuckles area also has a dual layer to help with protection against impact.
- The glove does not limit movement. The glove only covers your hand a small part of your wrist which will not limit your wrist movement. The area just below the wrist is also made out of spandex which is a stretchable material which will also help with movement.
These gloves are perfect to be used for motorcycling, outdoor activities, shooting and also climbing. These pair of gloves are also a great alternative to the MrShight.

#5 Hatch NS430 (Best for Cold Weather)
We all know that when entering the winter season it is also the hunting season. One problem with the winter is going to be the cold.
When you are like me when your hands get cold and you start to lose that desired sensitivity when pulling the trigger, then it can become a problem. Sometimes I tend to completely lose any type sensation in my hand when it is very cold.
This is where the Hatch NS430 can help a lot. It will help to keep your hands warm during the cold season and it has one of the best grips compared to most gloves. These gloves are also not that expensive and are in the same price range as the Mechanix Wear and Freetoo.
Features worth considering:
- Contains 2 very useful materials. This glove is made out of Synsi-feel synthetic leather which helps with the grip and protection while the neoprene contributes to the warmth and comfort.
- Offers superior grip. The palm area of these gloves is made out of Synsi feel leather to help with the grip and sensitivity. Certain areas such as the fingertips and the palm of the hand also contain Extreme-Grip patches that help with grip.
- Offers great warmth. Along with the Synsi-feel leather, this glove will also be made out of neoprene which greatly protects your hands against the cold.
- Limited protection. One problem with these gloves is that they do not really offer the desired amount of protection that most tactical gloves provide. Instead, this glove is focused on grip and warmth during the colder seasons.
If your hands tend to get cold and you do not worry that much about protection, then I would highly recommend these gloves.
They are also not that expensive.

#8 5.11 Tactical Gloves
If you are a huge 5.11 Tactical fan and you would also like to have a pair of gloves from them, then I would highly recommend the 5.11 Tactical gloves.
They only come in the color Black and also have 4 sizes which are Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. When it comes to the price, these are very similar to the Rapdom and Mechanix Wear gloves.
These gloves do not offer any unique or special type of features compared to some of the other gloves mentioned before in this article.
Some of the features worth mentioning:
- Made out of premium grade materials. These gloves are made out of leather and also nylon. These 2 types of materials will add extra years to the durability of these gloves.
- Offers some protection. The palm area is double padded with leather, while the back of the hand is also protected. The fingertips especially are also double padded with leather for extra protection.

- Can be easily taken off. The velcro and rubber cuffs will enable you to take these gloves off in just a matter of seconds.
As you can see, there is not really anything new that this glove has to offer compared to the others. However, I still think that these are great gloves that need to be mentioned.

- Offers individual knuckle protection. The nice thing about these gloves is that each knuckle will be padded with foam individually for protection. The foam might not provide the same protection as rubber for instance, but at least it will contribute to ventilation.
- Protection around thumb area. Usually, the first area on the glove that will start to show wear and tear is the area between your thumb and index finger. For this glove, that specific area will be double padded for extra durability.
- Can use with your touchscreen. Another awesome feature is that the fingertips of these gloves will have TouchTac technology which will enable you to use your iPhone without having to take these gloves off.

These gloves are also very inexpensive and are very similar to the price of the MrSight glove which is also the least expensive option available in this review.
Features worth mentioning:
- Makes the use of synthetic materials. Sometimes synthetic materials are better than natural one when you want to improve the durability and functionality of a product. These gloves are made out of Ammara fabric which is a combination of polyamide and polyurethane and the second material is rubber.
- Offers superior protection. The topside of this glove is covered with rubber from the finger area down to near the wrist. This will offer protection against most types of impact.

- The fingers are open. Some people prefer to have gloves where their fingers will be open. This will give you direct contact without the interference of material which will remove the sensitivity and will also help your hands to cool down better.
There were not many negative points associated with this glove. If I should add one, then it will be that they might be too bulky for most people but that is just a personal preference which will not interfere much with the functionality of this glove.

Hey! Because I live in Canada (more specifically, in the Ottawa area), I believe that Hatch NS430 would be my best choice.
Do you know at what minimum temperature can these gloves protect from cold?
In the Ottawa area it used to get as low as -30*C (winter of 2015 was the worst one as far as I remember).

I am not exactly sure about the minimum temperature, but they will definitely have an impact on protecting your hands against the cold.

Hi Viljoen,
Excellent information to decide the best tactical gloves. I want to congratulate you first for the quality of the information you provide. You make a very detailed description of the different types of hunting gloves that we can choose from. Taking into account, different climatic conditions, sensitivity of the index finger, protection of the knuckles and palm of the hand, etc.
I am a hunter and I recognize the importance of having a quality glove, the price is not the most important, in my case. Excellent article. Regards!
