If you would like to know which ghillie suit was my favorite, then I would recommend the Red Rock Outdoor Gear Ghillie Suit if you do not want to read through the entire article.
So you want to know which ghillie suit is the best?
If you have answered “yes” then you are in for a treat as I have listed 10 of the best ghillie suits for hunting that you will ever find online.
Get this:
Using stealth or camouflage is one of the best ways to avoid detection or perhaps a bullet or two. By camouflaging yourself into the environment is one of the best ways to avoid detection. One of the best ways to do this is by shattering your bodies outlines and using color/texture blending.
Think of an optical illusion. How many times have your mind been playing tricks on you? This is where ghillie suits come into play. The word “ghillie” is an old Scottish term used to describe a special kind of game warden which used to protect their game from poachers.
Enough of the history lesson and let’s get to the suits themselves. In this article, I will cover 10 of the best ghillie suits that met a very specific list of criteria. I only focused on suits that can be broken up into parts as I am not a fan of uni-suits. The suits also had to look realistic enough and not wear out very easily. Depending on the season and which area you would like to hunt, I believe that I have covered most areas.

So you want to know what is the best ghillie suit?
Finding the best possible ghillie suit for yourself can be a problem especially if you are new to the hunting or airsoft theme.
Why?
Because there are a lot of different types of ghillie suits such as threaded or leaved ghillie suit (there is also a hybrid type available). You also need to take the type of environment in mind before buying a suite.
So without further ado, let’s get to the basics.
1. You have a color theme for each type of habitat
It is important that you know exactly the type of habitat/biome in which you will be hunting. Another important aspect is also going to be the season in which you will be hunting as well.
The first habitat type that I will look at is the Woodland.
a) Green colors that resemble Woodland (Summer months)
The most colors associated with woodland are light/dark green with some brown colors as well. The majority of the ghillie suits in this article will also be compatible with the woodland landscape.
Some of them might include the following:
3. CamoSystems Jackal Ghillie Suit
There are also more ghillie suits available in this review that can be used in the woodland landscape.
b) Brown colors that resemble Autumn (light and dark)
When you think about Autumn, you will start to see that the life in plants and trees will start to go away. The dark and bright green colors will then be replaced with light to dark brown colors which will also bring a lot of leaves with it.
The best ghillie suits for hunting in the autumn/winter will be the ones that are brown and also leavy. Below is a list of some of them:
2. Arcturus 3D Leafy Ghillie Suit
3. North Mountain Gear 3D Leafy Suit
These were about the best ones that I could find for Autumn.
c) Arid to Semi-Arid conditions that have sagebrush
If you would like to go and hunt in an area that is very dry where you might find a lot of small bushes scattered around the area, then I would highly recommend a ghillie suit that might resemble a Sagebrush.
The best option is going to be the Warrior Ghillie Suit™ that comes in Woodland and Sagebrush.
The sagebrush color has a mixture of light green and brown which resembles the bushes located in dry and arid areas.
d) Light brown to tan colors that resemble the desert
If you have been part of the military in Afghanistan then you might be familiar with this type of ghillie suit and area. The color theme that represents a desert is mainly light brown to the color tan.
There is no green or even dark brown colors seen in the desert.
The best suit for this environment is going to be the Red Rock Outdoor Gear which also comes in Acu Camouflage and Woodland Camouflage.
2. What types of ghillie suits can you expect to find?
There are basically 3 types of ghillie suits available in the market.
The first type is going to be the threaded type. This type will also resemble most of the ghillie suits that you will find anywhere online.
All of these suits will have a base or foundation to work from which can be a jacket and pants that are made from polyester or nylon netting.
Then the manufacturers will stitch the threads onto this netting. The threads will also be in different colors to make the suit more realistic.
The only problem that I have with these threads is that the catch onto debris. The best suit in this category that actually does not catch onto debris is going to be the CamoSystems Jackal Ghillie Suit that is also the most expensive.
The second type is going to be the leavy type. The base is the same as that from the threaded type but instead of using threads, the manufacturers will attach 3D synthetic leaves varying in size and color.
The best suit in this category is going to be the North Mountain Gear 3D Leafy Suit which looks the most realistic.
Let’s finish off with the third type.
The third type is going to incorporate both the thread and the leaves as a hybrid. This combination might make the ghillie suit even more realistic.
There is only 1 that I could find and recommend which is the North Mountain Gear Hybrid Suit which has both a green and brown color option.
3. What can you expect from the pricing?
The pricing will heavily be influenced by how dense the threads are stacked onto the suit and also the stitching. Some suits that are not that densely stacked will be less expensive.
You can expect to pay from just under $30 up to $130 per suit.
On average you can expect to pay from $40 up to $80 if you want one that is good quality without breaking the bank.
If you are someone that does not have a very flexible budget and you would like to know which product is the least expensive, then I would highly recommend the OUTERDO ghillie suit.
If you have a more flexible budget and you can afford the best then I would highly recommend the CamoSystems Jackal Ghillie Suit as this one is also stacked to the densest.
4. You need to consider the weight
The weight is also very important for when you do not want to carry a suit that is too heavy. The factor that contributes to the weight is the type of thread and also the amount stacked onto the suit.
As a general rule the denser the thread that is stacked, the heavier the suit.
The lightest ghillie suit in this selection is going to be the OUTERDO that also weighs 16 ounces and is also a leavy suit.
The heaviest suit in this selection is going to be the Ghost Ghillie Suit™ as this one weighs 112 oz and is very densely stacked.
5. What sizes can you expect?
Here is where it gets interesting.
When it comes to ghillie suits you will find that most of the time that some of the sizes will be grouped into one size.
For instance, the sizes Medium and Large will be grouped into one size. You will also find that the X-Large and XX-Large will also be grouped into one size.
Ghillie suits make this possible by how much they can be adjusted. Features such as elastic bands and drawstrings will make them much more expandable.
6. It needs to be comfortable to wear
This is a huge one because you might get times where you have to wear this suit for the whole day.
The secret behind the comfortability is going to be the elasticity, adjustable drawstrings and also elastic waist and wristbands.
The weight can also have an effect on how comfortable it will be.
#1 Red Rock Outdoor Gear Ghillie Suit
If you would like to have a ghillie suit that is realistic and also comes in 3 different color themes then I would highly recommend the suit from Red Rock Outdoor Gear. Regarding the price all I can say is that this suit ranges from $40 up to $80 depending on the size and the supplier. The size also ranges from Medium up to XX-Large.
More features available:
- Made to be tough, lightweight and flexible. This suit is made out of 98% polyester and 2% spandex. The polyester will make the suit stronger and also lighter. The spandex will also make the suite more flexible which will, in turn, make it more comfortable as well. There is also nothing worse carrying a suit that is too heavy.
- This suit can be easily dressed. This suit is broken up into 4 wearable pieces. The first 2 main pieces are the jacket and pants. Then you will get the hood for which you can use on your head and also a gun wrap that will cover your rifle as well. This will also greatly improve the dressing and undressing of this suit.
- Can easily carry your gear. You will also find a stuff sack for where you can put all of your other accessories in such as your bag.
- Has 3 color themes to choose from. The color themes will include Acu Camouflage, Desert Camouflage, and Woodland Camouflage. Each of these types will depend on which habitat type you plan to use it with.

#2 OUTERDO Ghillie Suits
The ghillie suit from OUTERDO is surprisingly good especially for one that is very inexpensive. If you are short on a budget and you would like to have a ghillie suit that has acceptable quality then this one from Outerdo is for you. This Ghillie suit will work best in a forest as it has leavy textures and brown to green colors.
More on the Outerdo suit:
- Made to be strong and also lightweight. This suit is made out of polyester fabric and nylon rope which is both strong and also very lightweight.
- Very comfortable fit (only 2 parts). The trousers also have an elastic waist which means that it is much easier to fit and also have an elastic ankle strap. There will also be a hood attached to the jacket. The hood can also easily be adjusted with a drawstring in case it is too loose or stiff around your face. The jacket also has a high-quality zipper and flex-cuffs around the wrist area.
- The suit will not catch onto branches. One very prominent feature of this suit is that it only has 3D leaves attached to it. This greatly decreases the chances of catching onto branches or hanging in your face from your hood.
- Comes in 2 types of appearances. This suit has 2 types of appearances where the first one is darker in color as the second one.
The only problem that I had with this suit is that it only comes in 1 size and you need to know your measurements before buying this suit.
What we liked
- Have 2 colors available.

#3 Ghost Ghillie Suit™
If you are serious about quality and camouflage, then I would highly recommend the Ghost Ghillie Suit. The most prominent aspect of this suit is that it is very densely threaded which also gives it a more realistic appeal and would also make it heavier than some of the other suits. It is also important to note that this suit might also be very expensive compared to the others mentioned in this article.
This suit will weigh around 6.5 pounds which are 1-2 pounds heavier than most other ghillie suits.
All of the features associated with this suit:
- It is durable for years to come. Most low ghillie suits have a big shedding problem. This ghillie suit has double stitched threads which will drastically improve the durability for years to come.
- It is very easy to wear this suit. These suits also come in a set of 3 parts which includes the jacket, pants and rifle wrap. It is important to keep in mind that the hood and the jacket is one unit.
- This suit is extremely comfortable. This suit also has adjustable drawstrings that will enable you to adjust how the suit will fit on your body.
- Comes in more than 1 size. This suit also covers 4 sizes which include the following: Kids size, Young Adult, Regular, and X-Large.
- Can choose between more than 1 color. This suit has 2 basic colors which include the Dry Grass and Woodland. Both the woodland and dry grass suits have a large variety of colors for a more realistic blend.
The only 2 minor problems that this suit has is that it is heavier and also more expensive than most of the other suits.
What we liked
- More than 1 color available.
- Large variety of sizes.

If you have a fetish for leavy type ghillie suits and you did not like the Outerdo ghillie suit, then I would highly recommend the Arcturus 3D Leafy ghillie suit. This ghillie suit is much like the Outerdo ghillie suit, but only of higher quality. It is also important to keep in mind that the Arcturus is much more expensive than the Outerdo ghillie suit but also less expensive than the Ghost ghillie suit.
More info on the Arcturus:
- Very realistic and good quality. The suit has a strong lightweight polyester mesh which will act as the base for this suit. The base will then be covered with leaves (1000 3D leaves to be more or less exact).
- Will not catch onto any foreign material. Just like the Outerdo suit, this suit will not catch onto branches and twigs which is a great positive for me.
- Come in easy to wear parts. This suit is also a 2-part ghillie suit which will have the jacket and the pants. The jacket will come with a hood and will also open with a zipper. The jacket will also have elastic wristbands. The pants, on the other hand, will have an elastic waistband which makes it easier to fit and a drawcord.

What we liked
- Good quality and very realistic.

If you would like a threaded ghillie suit but the Ghost and the Red Rock ghillie suits were too expensive then I would highly recommend the ghillie suit from Pinty. This suit is also half the price of that of the Ghost suit. This suit also only comes in one size which is Medium/Large. The weight of this ghillie suit is also around 67 ounces.
Some of the features of the Gloryfire:
- Very durable and also denser stacked. This suit has more threads that give it a fuller and also denser look. The threads are also double stitched so that they do not fall off. This will also make this product more durable.

#8 Warrior Ghillie Suit™
If you want a ghillie suit similar to that of the Ghost, then you might want to look at this less expensive version. The Warrior ghillie suit is around $10 less expensive than the Ghost and is also manufactured by the same company by the name of Arcturus. This suit is also a threaded type suit similar to that of the Ghost. Let’s get to the features.
More info on the features:
- Comes in 4 easy to wear pieces. This suit comes in 4 pieces which include the pants, jacket, cape with a face veil and also a gun wrap. This also makes it easier to wear.
- It is more durable with less thread loss. The problem with cheaper ghillie suits is their thread tend to thin out over time resulting in a less desirable suit. The close stitching helps to keep the thread in place for much longer than normal stitching. The base of this suit is also made out of double layer mesh shell.
- Can go with 2 types of environments. You will need to choose the right ghillie suit for the specific environment that you choose to visit. There are 2 types of environments that these ghillie suits are made for and they include sagebrush and also woodland.

#9 CamoSystems Jackal Ghillie Suit
If you want to take camouflage to the next level, then I would highly recommend the ghillie suit from CamoSystems Jackal. This suit has very thick straps of thread and also covers your whole body. Regarding the price, I will also mention that it is more expensive than all of the ghillie suits listed in this article and can go over the $100 mark.
More info on the features:
- Comes in 3 easy to wear parts. This ghillie suit comes with pants, a jacket and also a detachable hood. This makes it easier to wear as uni-suit types. The netting is also made out of polyester material which is lightweight and also durable.
- Very densely threaded. This suit is also the most densely threaded suit in this list. Even your face will be covered as well. This also contributes to the weight of this suit.

#10 North Mountain Gear Hybrid Suit
All of the ghillie suits in this article was either a threaded or a leavy ghillie suit. I never thought that there would be a ghillie suit that could also be described as a hybrid as well. This is where the North Mountain Hybrid Suit (The second North Mountain Gear product in this listing) comes into play as it contains both the threads and leaves. This suit is also in the same price range as the other North Mountain Gear suit and the Ghost ghillie suit.
More info on the features:

- Very comfortable to wear. This suit also makes the use of elastic cuffs, waistband, and ankles. There is also a drawstring for the hood and the ankles. All of these will make sure that this suit fits perfectly which also contributes to the comfort. This is also a very breathable design that will not heat you up in the summer.

- Comes in 2 available colors. You will have a green and also a brownish color available which will also resemble a woodland theme.
The only problem with these types of hybrid suits is that the threads get tangled up which makes the suit more vulnerable to shedding and picking up debris.

A final word about ghillie suits
I personally do not think that there such a thing as an overall perfect ghillie suit. The reasoning behind my statement is that you need to choose the ideal ghillie suit for the environment that you wish to hide in.
If you can find a suit that matches the same color and texture as the environment then I think you might have a winner. Even my personal recommendation for the Red Rock Outdoor ghillie suit might be of little value if you plan to go in a snowy area.
The only 2 points of advice that I can give is about the quality and how realistically the suit will diminish outlines and blend into its preferred environment.
If you think that I may have missed a worthy Ghillie suit, then please submit it below in the comment section.

Super comprehensive review of Ghillie Suits! So helpful.
My son and I archery hunt for elk along the Oregon coast…we’ve been thinking about getting some lightweight green Ghillie suits to take out hunt to the next level.
One thing I was curious about and didn’t notice in your post. Are these all machine washable? I would think the suits that have sewed on leafs would be…but those with the colored string…maybe only hand wash?
Can’t wait for hunting season and getting one of these suits!!!!
Thanks again.
Lewis Miller says
To be truthful, I have never thought about the washing part. It all depends on how secure the leaves and threads are attached to the mesh. I would only recommend those that are double threaded for machine washing. The single threaded ones I will clean by hand washing.
